Several research institutes, mainly part of a Malaysian, Indonesian or Brunei university or international research organsation or university are active in Sabah, Sarawak, Kalimantan and Brunei. Research is primarly conducted in the fileds of biological, wildlife, marine, endangered species such as orang-utan, rhinos, lizars, turtles, insects, catfish, conservation projects, sustainable agriculture, social and medical. Many researchers and students from universities around the world are involved in these projects as part of their master or PhD program or theses.
